SOME HISTORY
John G. Lake was born in Canada in 1870. In his personal account, “Adventures in God,” Lake wrote “As I think back over my boyhood and young manhood, there comes to mind remembrances like a nightmare: sickness, doctors, nurses, hospitals, hearses, funerals, graveyards and tombstones; a sorrowing household; a brokenhearted mother and grief-stricken father, struggling to forget the sorrows of the past, in order to assist the living members of the family who needed their love and care.”
In 1908, God sent him to Africa, where he helped to establish over 100 churches. Upon his return to America, Lake went to Spokane, Washington. He rented a suite in the Rookery Building to pray for the sick. It was known as the Healing Rooms. Lake and his assistants, who were known as “healing technicians,” prayed for the sick. Over a five-year period, there were over 100,000 documented healings. The U.S. government declared Spokane the healthiest city in the world.
Lake’s healing and preaching ministry spanned the years from 1898 until his death in 1935.

ABOUT HEALING ROOMS OF THE LAKELAND
The Healing Rooms of the Lakeland opened its doors to the public on May 4, 2009. The Healing Rooms of the Lakeland is a Christ-centered ministry providing free prayer for those who need healing. We are member of the International Association of Healing Rooms (Spokane). It is a neutral, safe, caring, compassionate, and completely confidential place to go to receive prayer for healing. The vision of the Healing Rooms of the Lakeland is to see the healing, liberating and life transforming power of Jesus Christ made accessible to the people of the Lakeland. Prayer is ministered on a first-come, first-served basis and there is no appointment or cost involved. We are open every Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and are operated out of Cold Lake Community Church across the street from Hamel’s Meats. Those wishing to receive prayer meet with three qualified prayer volunteers who pray with an individual in a private, quiet room for approximately 10 -15 minutes.
WHO DOES THE PRAYING?
Trained volunteers from various Christian denominations staff the Healing Rooms. They believe that Jesus can, and does, heal people today, taking Jesus at His word when He said: “They shall lay hands on the sick and they will recover” (Mark 16:17-18). Volunteers are not trained professional doctors or counselors; they are trained prayer technicians. They will not give medical advice or counseling, in fact they will encourage you to keep seeing your doctor. Volunteers have been through a screening process in which they have had a recommendation from their pastor and an interview with the directors of the healing rooms. Each volunteer also completes healing room training before praying with individuals. A family atmosphere of love and unity permeates the teams of multi-denominational volunteers.
WHO CAN REQUEST PRAYER?
Anyone suffering with any sickness, diseases, or pain can request prayer. There is no requirement to be a believer of a particular religion or denomination to receive prayer for healing. There are no obligations, catches, or religious requirements – simply be willing to receive prayer for healing.
HOW SOON WILL I BE HEALED?
Some are healed instantly by a miraculous touch of God; others receive their healing progressively, over a period of days, weeks or months. Sometimes, people are not healed at all, and we accept that, even though we may not understand why. Volunteers are committed to continue praying for you for as long as you wish to receive prayers. No promises are made, except that the Word of God says: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). While He walked this earth He healed the sick, the poor in spirit and the broken hearted; cast out demons; and performed many miracles. We believe He is the same today and still heals the sick.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I GO FOR PRAYER?
When you come to the healing rooms, you will be greeted by a receptionist and asked to complete a prayer request form and sign it. You then will be guided to a waiting room with others until it’s your turn for prayer (first-come first- served basis). Once you are taken to the prayer room (small quiet room), the volunteers will introduce themselves and explain to you how they will proceed for prayer. Usually, there is one male and two females on the team. One volunteer will be facing you and the other two will stand behind you and put one hand lightly on your shoulders. If you do not feel comfortable with them touching you, it is okay to say so. Prayer lengths vary for 3 minutes to no more than 15 minutes.
WHAT ABOUT CONFIDENTIALITY?
As confidentiality is of the upmost importance, very rigid rules have been implemented and all volunteers of the Healing Rooms of the Lakeland must sign a contract of confidentiality before participating in Healing Room prayers. So what is prayed for in the healing rooms does not get out of the healing rooms. All prayer request forms are safely locked in a file cabinet.
WHO DOES THE HEALING?
There is only one super-star healer on the team: Jesus! He is the head and we are the body; all healing is performed through His grace.
